James Harvey

Celebration of Life Services for James Harvey, age 90, of Cookeville, Tennessee, were conducted on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at 1:00 PM from The Chapel of Goff Funeral Home. Family members officiated and interment followed in the Welch Memorial Cemetery with Full Military Honors Provided by the Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Harvey was born on Sunday, February 24, 1935, in New York, New York, to the late Daniel A. and Helen Pelikan Harvey. Jim passed away peacefully in his home after a brief battle with cancer. Jim was born and raised in New York City. His high school years were spent at Fryeburg Academy in Maine. Following high school, he became a proud paratrooper with the 101st Airborne and played football for the US ARMY's Screaming Eagles. It was during this time that he met and married the love of his life, Kathryn. After moving on from the military, Jim pursued higher education, earning his Bachelors from Farleigh Dickinson University and a Masters in Mathematics from Rutgers University. He spent the majority of his career as a Senior Systems Engineer in Manhattan. Thereafter, he and Kathryn relocated to her hometown in Tennessee, where he became an active retiree. Through his life, Jim maintained a multitude of passionate interests. He was a master chess player, an award-winning line dancer, an avid researcher, and a dedicated cyclist, to name just a few. Just before his passing, he was developing a cliff-note text on calculus. Jim was survived by his beloved wife, Kathryn; five children: Helen (Stuart), Annamarie (Chuck) Davis, Kathy (Tony), Barbara (Kevin), and son, Jim (Liz) Harvey; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; and his brother, Daniel (Vivian) Harvey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Dan Harvey; sister, Kathleen; and his beloved grandson, Jason. The family received friends at Goff Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, from 11:00 AM until time of services at 1:00 PM. Arrangements and Care provided by D.M.
