Funeral Services for Doris Fay (Welch) Sampley, age 93, of Monterey, Tennessee, were conducted on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at 3:00 PM from The Chapel of Goff Funeral Home. Bishop Mark Riches officiated and interment followed in the Welch Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requested memorials may be given to Monterey Senior Citizens Center, 105 Elmore Street, Monterey, TN 38574. Cash or checks, please make checks payable to Monterey Senior Citizens Center. (The Center's hours of operation are Monday thru Thursday 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM). Mrs. Sampley was born on Friday, March 27, 1931, in Monterey, Tennessee, to the late Roscoe Harvey and Celia May Howard Welch. She passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Doris was a homemaker and was well known for her cooking and sharing food, especially her fried apple pies. She could make anything, was an accomplished acrylic paint artist, a quilter, loved little children, and always wanted to give to others not only gifts but her love. She loved her hometown of Monterey and was honored to be a past Grand Marshal of the Monterey Christmas Parade. She was a member of Monterey Senior Citizens and loved attending their meetings. She was a Poll Pad Registrar with the Putnam County Election Commission. She made and donated quilts to the Lions Club Disaster Team for victims for the past 17 years. She was a founding member of Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints in Cookeville where she served as a Primary School Teacher for many years. She was a devoted wife to her husband who she married at the age of 15, they were partners in life, loved people and caring for others. She was survived by, 4 sons and 2 daughters-in-law, Rick and Judy Sampley of Atlanta, GA Mark Sampley of Monterey, TN Stephen Sampley of Cookeville, TN John and Connie Sampley of Crossville, TN 8 grandchildren, Emily (Jason) Bruebaker, Julie (Paul) McMullen, Sarah (Sean) McConnaughhay, George Sampley, Andrew Sampley, Allison (Justin) Turney, Victoria Sampley, and Elizabeth (Brian) Rubenstrunk 9 great grandchildren 2 sisters, Dimple Powell of Miamisburg, OH Anna Weaver of Ocala, FL 1 sister-in-law, Edna Rae Welch Reeves of Monterey, TN In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Carson DeWitt Sampley; son, Randall Scott Sampley; great granddaughter, Allorah Turney; sister, Marjorie Vermillion; and brothers, Roscoe Welch Jr. and Donnie Welch.
